King County Emergency 911
King County
Seattle, WA
BDS Planning & Urban Design worked with CBE Strategic in a fast-paced, four-month process, involving multiple jurisdictions. The goal was to recommend a strategic plan scope of work for the King County Regional E-911 System’s Strategic Planning Process. The 16-person Leadership Group included executives from large and small Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), King County & Seattle Councils, and the Seattle Police Department. The Leadership Group meetings were planned by BDS in collaboration with a six-person Project Coordination Team representing PSAPs and other key partners in emergency management and public safety. CBE reached out to each Leadership Group member between meetings. On May 12, 2016, the BDS-written “Strategic Planning Process Report” was adopted and subsequently accepted by the King County Council.
BDS is currently leading an effort with CBE Strategic, IXP Corporation, and ECONorthwest to develop a Strategic Plan that will address priorities for the regional portions of the King County E-911 System. This plan will guide the ongoing process for decision making, funding, and implementing those priorities over the next decade. This important and complex process, designed and led by BDS, involves more than 70 stakeholders, including a Leadership Group, Planning Group, and three task forces providing subject area expertise in governance, technology and operations, and finance. Stakeholders include executives from large and small Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), King County and Seattle Councils, and the Seattle Police Department, among many others. The Strategic Plan will be completed and proposed for adoption by the King County Council in December 2017.
